Hot tea and umbrella chocolate

Weekend, rainy day, hot tea next to the window and chocolate in huge quantities that your roommate left with a letter beside them "Everytime you miss me, take a piece of my chocolate, it's all for you." That's what brought me to our blog to write about my experience in Romania. I had to find an occupation if I didn't want to end up with a huge amount of sugar in the blood.

But, coincidence or not, today is also 8th of October, which means exactly three months since I came by taxi from Veles to Craiova. Exactly in half, so why not share how I spent the time so far?

If i had to asnwer the question “What are the three words that describe your expirience” I would answer: different, challenging and motivating.

I have to be honest, at first I wasn’t thrilled by the idea that everything will be different from what I was used to. Different country, different city, different house, different people, different language - all these differences pushed me so far away from the comfort zone and I'm happy that i found out how surprisingly well it can be out there.

I am waking up saying “Good morning” instead of “Добро утро” and even my “morning brain” knows it's time to start thinking in English. But also, I am trying to learn as many words as I can in romanian, so i wouldn’t be the foreigner girl in the “E1” bus (Scuzați-mă, coborâți?). And trying to pass the month and not spending more than anticipated, but in the same time trying to visit as many as possible of the beautiful cities that this country has, or perhaps go to neighboring countries – these challenges have made my life much more interesting!

But, once you realize that you have unnecessarily came up with a dose of skepticism and that moment when people accept you, support your ideas and help you to realize them, when they believe in you – that’s when you feel more motivated than ever!

My favourite engagement in this activities aimed on learning about good manners and reading habits – being a “teacher”. Working together with a group of enthusiasts and seeing their curiosity about the next activities – i got lucky with this students!

I met wonderful people and i am looking forward to meet more! I have learned a lot and I still have a lot to learn. And i have seen beautiful places, but i can’t wait to see Nicolae Romanescu park in late autumn!

So far, I am pleased with what I have gained from this EVS experience. I hope that the next three months will be even more interesting and productive. Oh, although I still have three more months here, I'm already missing everything in Craiova!
